OVERVIEW

Organization, Galactic authority. First seen Book 1, Chapter 1

The Syndicate

The Syndicate is the governing authority Earth now falls under: its codes allowed the planet to be seized and mined, and it sends a neutral observer AI to make sure the World Dungeon follows its rules.

  • Per Mordecai, the Syndicate is made up of more than three billion independent star systems. Each season a new Dungeon Crawler World debuts across its network, and quintillions of its citizens become obsessed with the crawl.
  • Per Mordecai, it seeds compatible worlds with one of six basic starter species, humans among them, and later reveals itself to the largest settlement once a working government exists, which legally counts as First Contact.
  • Per Brandon, passing on what his guildmaster Mistress Tiatha told him, the Syndicate keeps people on the worlds it seeds long after seeding them, sometimes humans from other worlds, and they steer each world's culture, which is why some things turn up everywhere.
  • Per Lexis, the Syndicate government owns the main program, Dungeon Crawler World: Earth. Its rules let private production companies make their own programs about the crawl, provided they pay for the production themselves and pay an advertising stipend.
